Ivor the Engine
The Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited must be one of the best known and best loved of the little Welsh railways. The fact that it is wholly fictitious and exists only in the cartoon films, books and annuals produced by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate, does not detract from the reality of the lines, signals, stations and people who live in that imaginary place. Nor has it diminished the enormous popularity that the films have enjoyed.
Ivor the Engine was part of the mainstream of ITV children's television in the 1960s and of the BBC Television in the 1970s.
There has been a play and a gramophone record and a large number of books published, six of which are still in print.
